Most people would say that I already bought a fair amount of stuff in bulk. 10+ lbs of ground beef at a time. A half dozen whole chickens when they are on sale. I enjoy having a good stock of food around so my chances of *another* last minute shopping trip aren't very great. I've been getting most of my dry goods from our local Amish grocery store including oatmeal in 6 lb bags. I was surprised by how fast we go through them and it seemed like my trips out to Amish country were getting more and more frequent (or maybe it was the lure of the bakery with fresh donuts that just happens to be conveniently located on the way to the grocery store). Whatever the reason, I decided to take the plunge and buy a 50 lb bag of oatmeal. At $19.45 a bag it works out to only 39 cents a lb. Not bad. Dh picked up a couple 5 gallon buckets from the hardware store to keep it in but as you can see that wasn't enough space. Eeeek! That's alot of oatmeal.
